Our company is finally moving everything to Microsoft 365, but we've run into an unexpected problem. We have nearly 80 old PST archives from former employees, while the current staff still use Gmail through IMAP. Management wants everything migrated into one tenant without missing emails, contacts, calendars, or folder hierarchy.
We initially thought Outlook's import feature would solve everything, but it quickly became obvious that handling dozens of PST files alongside live IMAP accounts would take weeks. We also worried about duplicate emails, corrupted folders, and users accidentally overwriting existing mailbox data.
After reading several IT discussions, I tested the DRS Softech Email Migration Tool, and it handled both scenarios from a single interface. I could upload multiple PST files in bulk, connect live IMAP mailboxes, preview every folder before migration, and even apply date filters so only recent emails were transferred.
The duplicate removal feature saved us from importing repeated messages, while folder mapping preserved the original mailbox structure exactly as users expected. I also liked the detailed migration reports because they showed how many items were migrated and whether any folders were skipped.
For anyone dealing with a mixed environment of Outlook archives and IMAP accounts, having both migration workflows in one application saves an incredible amount of time. Has anyone else managed a similar migration project? I'd love to know what approach worked best for your organization.
