We're in the middle of moving several email accounts from an IMAP server to Microsoft 365, and the process has been much slower than expected. Some migration batches have been running for days, and a few mailboxes still haven't completed successfully.
Initially, I followed Microsoft's recommended approach, but troubleshooting failed jobs, authentication issues, and synchronization delays has become a full-time task. The more mailboxes involved, the more complicated the process seems to get.
Because of these challenges, I started looking for alternative ways to Migrate IMAP to Office 365. During testing, the DRS Softech IMAP Backup Tool stood out because it simplified the migration workflow considerably. Instead of relying on multiple migration batches, I could connect source and destination accounts directly and manage transfers from a single dashboard.
The software also preserved folder hierarchy, which eliminated one of the biggest concerns users had after migration. Nobody wants to spend days reorganizing mailbox folders after the move is complete.
If you're currently migrating IMAP to Office 365 and finding the native tools slow or difficult to manage, it might be worth comparing them against dedicated migration solutions. The time saved during deployment can easily justify the change in approach.
