For me I would say 7-8 days is a good amount for your first trip as I did less than that on my first trip and I felt like I was rushing through everything.
A week - Explore a few days around Ubud, then a few days by the coast and even leave yourself a day or two for a day trip or two. I'd prefer to spend a little longer exploring everything than rushing to fit into 4-5 days.
If you have a little more time, perfect - Bali is one of those places where you don't actually need to pack the days with things.
