Why do Excel contacts fail to import properly on Android and iPhone devices?

This usually happens because Excel was never designed as a mobile contact format. An XLS or XLSX file stores contact data as flat spreadsheet rows, while Android and iPhone expect a structured contact file. During mobile import, Excel contacts often trigger format errors, mapping issues, or partial imports because phone labels, country codes, and multiple fields are not clearly defined. That’s why users see problems like contacts not importing, missing numbers, or duplicate entries.

Here’s the thing: vCard (VCF) is built specifically for device contact compatibility. It defines each attribute properly, so mobile apps know exactly how to read it. When I faced similar Excel contacts not importing on Android, converting the spreadsheet with Softaken Excel to vCard Converter solved it. The tool maps Excel contact fields correctly and generates phone-ready VCF files that import cleanly on both Android and iPhone.
