I have noticed that my Outlook PST file size has grown quite large over time, and it is starting to slow down my Outlook performance. I have heard that compacting PST files can help reduce the file size, but I am not sure what the safest way to do it manually is. Can someone guide me through the proper steps to manually compact a PST file without risking any data loss? Also, are there any precautions or best practices I should follow before performing this process?
If your Outlook PST file has become very large and is causing Outlook to slow down, manually compacting it may be a good option. But the question is, can this be done safely? Yes, Microsoft Outlook offers a built-in "Compact Now" option that allows you to safely reduce the size of your PST file.
Manual Method:
Open Outlook.
Go to File > Account Settings > Data Files.
Select your PST file and click Settings.
Click the Compact Now button.
This process removes deleted or unused space from your PST file and makes it lighter without data loss.
If your PST file is very large, it would be safer to use a third-party tool like DataVare Outlook PST Compact Expert Tool. This tool automatically compresses the PST file and preserves all emails, attachments, & folders.
Benefits:
No data loss
Easy and fast processing
Perfect for large PST files
