I found an old PST file from years ago, and Outlook is asking for a password that I do not remember. It is my own file (not stolen or someone else’s), and I just need to recover the emails inside. I am using Windows 10 / Outlook 2016 (but the file might date back to Outlook 2007/2010). I have tried guessing a few likely passwords and checked old notes, but no luck. What is the safest and most reliable way to open or recover an old PST when the password is lost?
Outlook's .pst file stores your email, contacts, calendar, and other data. If your old PST file is password-protected and you've forgotten the password, it can be quite worrying. A few days ago, I forgot the password to my old Outlook PST file and couldn't open it despite several attempts. Then I tried GainTools PST Password Recovery Software. This software is very easy to use and recovers the password in seconds. It supports PST files of any Outlook version, and there's no data loss. If you're also struggling to open your locked or password-protected PST file, give it a try.
